Battleship at Georgetown

Dear Future Hoyas,

Georgetown’s intramural sports provide a fun way to meet new people and spend time with friends. One of Georgetown’s more unique intramurals is battleship, which takes place once a year in the Yates Field House pool.

Battleship participants are divided into teams of four and given a few buckets and a plastic shield. Each team boards a canoe in the pool and attempts to splash as much water as possible into their opponents’ canoes. The canoe that manages to stay afloat the longest wins. Battleship is set up as a single-elimination tournament, and each round is chaotic and unpredictable.

I decided to make a team last year with a couple of friends and, despite being eliminated in the first round, we had a great time. The tournament made for a wet, yet really fun, evening, and my friends and I appreciated being able to take a break from our regular responsibilities.

I’d strongly encourage every new Hoya to give intramural sports a shot during their time at Georgetown, but definitely make sure to try battleship!
